5 minutes with Allen

ON-Q’s Employment Consultant

Tell us about your role at ON-Q and how you ended up here?

Currently I am a part-timer as an EC in DMS.  I’m testing the water on my capacity and ability during recovery period.  How did I end up here … Lisa Smith was one of the many people who got in touch with me following an injury I went through and during the process of getting back in the saddle we arranged a voluntary basis for me to work at ON-Q.  Since then I have been placed in a ‘paid role’.

What do you love about where you live?

It is close to almost everywhere but also in the country.

What do you love about where you work?

It is the value one gets from assisting someone with the steps in getting into work. It is very apparent to me how critical work is for the mind and well-being of people.  It provides opportunity for sounder financial independence, creates a high degree of self-worth and good for the soul.  That is why I love this gig.  It provides a platform where one can make a positive difference.

When not at work, you can find me …

Working around the house and in the garden, I also love working with wood and broaching the artistic side.

Kind of music you like listening to?

Keef and the Expensive Winos, Johnnie Johnson, Lucinda Williams.

What are you looking forward to?

Improving  and bring back a level of quality, independence and confidence to my life.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself as a child?

Adventurous.  My primary school friends and I wanted to start a circus.  Didn’t happen but I became one instead.  I’m also a avid supporter of the North Queensland Cowboys!

How do you recharge?

Working in garden, making things and cooking.

If you were to tell one person “Thank You” for helping me become the person I am today, who would it be and what did they do?

My daughters.  They have made me be a better person.  They showed me the true value in integrity, honesty and drive.

What characteristic do you most admire in others?

Honesty, integrity, artistic creativity.

What one memory do you most treasure?

Meeting the missus.

What super power would you like to have?

Enable everyone to gain a great education.

What would a “perfect” day look like for you?

Family back together in one space and seeing what they have done over time.
